The YTG (Yeah The Gewls) Movement was started to help strengthen the community of female athletes in sport and to share the important message of empowering and supporting each other.
Erin and I are good friends who train together almost every day. We often talk about how grateful we are to be able to support each other, and how we have always had a passion for supporting the younger athletes coming through. This is what led us to the idea for YTG-Strong is Beautiful.
We both agreed that this movement is something “younger us” was missing as we came into the sport and would have loved to see when we began our journey.
Both of us grew up playing and competing in sport from a young age, so it has always been an important part of our lives. In New Zealand, teenage girls drop out of organised sport at twice the rate boys do by the age of 14. For us, this meant that we were often one of the few girls in competitive sports and struggled to find female competitors, teammates, friends and role models.
So we decided that "#Yeah The Gewls" would be a really special way to set an example to the young girls in sports that being a committed and driven athlete is something that can be both fun and rewarding and that being strong is beautiful.
"YTG" is a message from us to you to empower and
support one another, because us girls are all in this together.
#YTG-Strong is beautiful.

I have been riding track since I was nine years old and competing since I was eleven. Through cycling, I have learned so much and experienced many incredible opportunities. My long-term goal is to ride for New Zealand at the Olympics one day, but for me, success means much more than just competing it is equaly about the person I become along the way. I aim inspire other young ladies to be strong and confident by sharing my love and passion for my sport.
